Audit Bill before Cabinet next Wednesday

The Audit Bill will be presented to the Cabinet next Wednesday, Health, Nutrition and Indigenous Medicine Minister Dr. Rajitha Senaratne said.
He was addressing a May Day rally organised by the Sri Lanka Republic Health Services Association at Punchi Borella. The Audit Bill is one of the main election promises of President Maithripala Sirisena and his government. The bill will empower the Audit Commission established under the 19th Amendment to the Constitution. Addressing the May Day rally, the minister said: “The workers’ movements should be spearheaded aiming at specific goals. People understood this change on January 8. As a result of that, we have won media freedom and independence for the Police service and the Judiciary. We will discuss at Hyde Park whether the promises given on January 8 were achieved or not. I urge the people to unite to win their rights and get rid of political pressure.”
The minister pledged that he would grant all demands of the Sri Lanka Republic Health Services Association while calling for unity to win the rest of demands.
“I joined this Trade Union in 1970. It has gathered more power today, because its leaders worked hard to win the workers’ rights without just going after slogans. This Association fought against racism in 1987. The issues in the health service can be resolved. I without hesitation grant trade union demands to the health sector,” he added.
Sri Lanka Republic Health Services Association Chairman W A D Wimalaratna was also present.
