Over 100 Lankan migrant workers return from Saudi, Kuwait

Hundred and twenty migrants workers from Saudi Arabia and Kuwait, who were kept in safe houses after facing difficulties during their tenure of employment, returned to the country yesterday.Among them, 64 returned from Kuwait and 61 from Saudi Arabia.

They were in the safe house belonging to the Foreign Employment Bureau in Kuwait and in the welfare centre managed by the Saudi Interior Ministry, sources said. Five women who arrived from Kuwait and one from Saudi Arabia were diagnosed with illnesses. Some migrant workers have been unable to get the assigned employment while some others faced harassment including physical abuse. Among the 64 who returned from Kuwait, seven teen migrant workers had overstayed their visas.
