Vehicular movement along the Kanuggalla- Eheliyagoda road has come to a standstill as a result of a bridge collapsing in Ellawala in Kanuggalla. Residents of the areas said the bridge collapsed because of illegal sand mining and excavating.
Those who have licence and who have no licence for sand mining have engaged in mining activities in Ellawala river. It has caused the collapse of the bridge, Sabaragamuwa Provincial Councillor Namindra Anupriya said.
